Scope and Content

A book recording facts and observations about Jamaican ant species. It also includes two imaginative stories, perhaps intended for children, to explain their behaviour. It is illustrated by pen and ink sketches and water colours (50 pages).

Administrative / Biographical History

Simeon Albert Shaw (1856-1944) was a farmer of Hampton, New Hampshire, who served as the town's first public librarian from 1881 to 1931. He developed a keen interest in natural history, particularly in ornithology and entomology. Shaw amassed a considerable collection of insect specimens which he donated to the University of New Hampshire.
