Letter from John George Black to George Gissing. He describes the venereal infection from which both he and Gissing had been suffering He concludes: "Please answer by return - I hope this will find you - & excuse me thrusting this frightful communication on you in a time of felicity. But answer instanter, for I tremblingly await my doom!!! Give me Wahltuch's [a Manchester physician] private address. Yours, non hilariter, J.G.B. Quoth the raven, Never more." This letter is addressed to Gissing at Mrs Walpole's, 33 Tulketh Street, Southport.
