Correspondence between Pontecorvo, Professor Boris L Astaurov and the J J P Deverill of the Royal Society concerning his difficultites in planning a visit to the Tien Shan during his trip to the USSR in order to conduct research on alpine flowers and plants

Scope and Content

Pontecorvo was quite clear about stating that his main reason for visiting the USSR in the first place was to visit apline areas, collect plants and photograph them. Astaurov insisted that the planned visits to genetics institutes would take up the whole 4 weeks of the trip and there would be no time for Pontecorvo to conduct his alpine plant research.
