Christopher Ware's diary contains a variety of information, including recipes, stories and poems, records of births, marriages and deaths of the Ware family and other individuals including members of the Royal Family, newspaper cuttings, some financial records (mostly receipts and notes of purchases and payments made or received by Ware) and accounts of journeys. The collection also includes papers and notes relating to various legal and business matters, some of which Ware was involved in himself.

Christopher Ware was born in March 1794 in St Michael le Belfrey parish in York, the son of Christopher Ware, a saddler, and his wife Mary.He followed his father into the same profession.
Ware married Sarah Nicholson in 1823. They had five children - Mary (b.1825), Sarah Ann (b.1828, d.1850), William Henry (b.1830), Christopher (b.1831) and Robert (b.1836).
Christopher Ware died in 1858.
