LETTER: Richard Williams, New York to his friend J. Owen. He was glad to hear that J.O. reached his journey's end safely [on the barque William & Jane]. Times are very hard in New York and thousands of men laid off. He expects to be able to sell his site and hopes to get 500 dollars. Asks J.O. to write before he sails from New Orleans. Mrs Williams [? the writer's wife] is getting worse every day and more cross. When she gets out of the Dutch Hotel she says she will be an independent lady.
