Scope and Content

LETTER: Sarah Chapman, Henry James etc. Thurlow Lodge, Clapham, Near London to her brother [? in law] Chief Officer, John Owen, Ship Charles Sprague c/o Messrs. Neill & Steward, Glasgow. She believes that John Owen was wise to take her advice concerning the money, although she would have reluctantly sent it if he had pressed, as a matter of right. Now she has the money saved for her brother where as it would have been spent freely. Their brother Richard will never do himself or anyone any good, and it is useless sending him money as he would spend it so fast. She encloses a promissory note for £50 and a P.O. for £3.13s. being the remainder of the Bill of Exchange. They hope to have his company when he is in England.
