Scope and Content

LETTER: Uncle John [Owen], Ship Peri, Lagos W.C. Africa to Ellen Jane [Parry]. He was pleased to receive her letter and to hear that she is well also "dear old Parr". He hopes sister is better as if she died before him there would be no one to shed a tear at his grave, as no doubt Ellen Jane will have a husband. He arrived in Lagos on the 9th after a very stormy passage. He asks her to thank Mr and Mrs Lewis for the comb which is well used especially before he visits the King of Lagos. He has visited him once already. He wishes Ellen Jane was with him. She could then lecture on the African way of life to her townspeople.
