Scope and Content

LETTER: contained in an envelope: John Owen, Master of the Barque Peri of Leith at Trieste to his niece Ellen Jane Parry, Bridge Street, Llangefni. He wrote to her from Paris before he made the two day journey to Verona, Italy. All the passengers had to leave the train due to a great flood which swept away three bridges. He walked up to his knees in water looking for a place to put his head down. He had great difficulty due to the language problem. He describes Venice which has no streets only canals with about 6 to 12 feet of water and people use boats instead of omnibuses. The shops display dazzling jewellery. He has chartered to go to Brazil in South America and hopes to be back in England in May or June.
