The Bailiff was appointed as President of the newly formed States Elementary Education Committee.By 1920 the States Elementary Education Committee had become the Public Instruction Committee and was responsible for all state education. In 2002 the Education Department merged with the Sport, Leisure and Recreation Department to form the Department of Education, Sport and Culture.
