Scope and Content

The fonds comprise personal correspondence, [c. 1950]-1983, scrapbooks and press cuttings, 1925-1998, relating to Welsh actors, music and the theatre in Wales, Cardiff Bay Opera House, &c., and acquired papers and manuscripts, mainly music scores and plays, [mid-19cent.]-1966.

Administrative / Biographical History

Dr Terence Rees, a microbiologist and collector of material relating to the theatre and music in Wales and beyond, was born on 24 February 1928 at Barry, Glamorgan. He was educated at the local county school, the University of Cardiff, 1948-1952 and the University of London, 1954-1957. As a microbiologist, he spent two years, 1965-1967, as a Research Fellow at the Institute of Diseases of the Chest at Brompton, London, and between 1967 and 1981 he lectured in Microbiology at the Institute of Laryngology, London.
