Scope and Content

Solly Zuckerman, as an endocrinologist with specialist knowledge of the primate reproductive cycle, was called upon from time to time by the Family Planning Association (FPA) and similar organisations to assess the quality of scientific papers or research proposals that they received. He was also, by the 1950s, quite heavily involved in efforts to tackle the problem of world population growth. In 1958, having failed to secure his services as a speaker at its AGM, the Association invited Zuckerman to become one of its vice presidents. He accepted.

The contents are slight. The correspondence is concerned chiefly with Zuckerman's appointment as a vice president and the bulk of the file consists of copies of FPA journals. File SZ/FPA/2 contains one item, the published papers of the Conference on Infertility, which includes a contribution from Zuckerman's erstwhile Oxford Extra-Mural Unit colleague Clive Emmens, then at the National Institute for Medical Research.
