Some of the topics covered include: 'The town in which I live'; The happiest day of my life'; My favourite hobby' (music, in which she quotes Beethoven's Sonatas and Schubert's Impromptus as among her current favourite pieces); 'How to be a bore'; descriptive summaries of literary works (e.g. The merchant of Venice), and creative writing inspired by literary works (e.g. 'Eppie's arrival at Silas Marner's cottage'). There are also original short stories and poems written by Derbyshire. Most of the pieces have been marked by teachers.
