This school opened on 28 September 1925 as Armthorpe New Village Council School (Mixed Department) in temporary accommodation with 107 children and three teaching staff. From 2 May 1927 the school became solely for junior girls (see SR51/1/1 page 19) until it closed in June 1929 with the girls transferring to the new Senior Mixed and Junior Girls schools. The reference SR51 was formerly used for Armthorpe Council Senior Girls School. These records have now been catalogued under the reference SR47 as Armthorpe County Secondary Modern Girls School.

SR53 was formerly Armthorpe New Village Temporary School, which has now been given the catalogue reference SR51. SR53 is therefore currently unused.
