Manuscripts collected by Captain Montagu. The collection includes:

  • Papers relating to literature, including:  
    • copies of works by classical authors
    • English and Italian poetry
    • papers relating to the works of Shakespeare
  • Autographs

Administrative / Biographical History

Captain Montagu Montagu, RN (1787-1863), who entered the navy in 1799, was an author and autograph collector.

The manuscripts were bequeathed to the Library by Captain Montagu in 1863.
