Scope and Content

Records of the General Meeting of Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Wales, 1635-1838, mainly registers of births, 1635-1837, marriages, 1657-1838, and burials, 1650-1838.

Administrative / Biographical History

The Society of Friends, also known as Quakers, is a Christian Protestant group founded by George Fox (1624-1691). The Friends have no ministerial order. Each congregation is a Particular (or Preparative) Meeting. These are grouped into Monthly Meetings which in turn combine to form Quarterly Meetings and, at national level, a Yearly Meeting. The records relate to transcripts of digest copies of registers of the General Meeting of Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Wales.
