Formation of the College of Nursing Ltd.

Scope and Content

Early correspondence previous to the formation of the College - possibly a collection of responses to a circular of a draft of the Articles of Association. Includes views of interested parties, suggestions for inclusions to the Charter and correspondence with the College's legal representative, Sir Charles Russell.

Letter dated 21 Jan 1916 from J Charles Warren of the Royal Hampshire County Hospital to Sir Arthur Stanley informing him that the circular letter met with the approval of the Committee and that they "will be glad to take their part in the development of the proposals";

Letter dated 19 Jan 1916 from Sir Arthur Stanley to Edwin B Armstrong of the Royal City of Dublin Hospital informing him of his intention to hold a meeting for all those interested in the scheme where he could put it forward in further detail, also that the scheme recieved more support than he expected;

Letter dated 13 Mar 1916 from E A Eddison of the Royal City of Dublin Hospital objecting to the selection of Miss Pamela Hill as a representative for Ireland on the college council due to her nationality, religion and training and suggesting alternative representatives;

Letter dated 2 Feb from Sir Arthur Stanley to J Percy C Kirkpatrick concerning proposals for nursing certificates, length of training, and locations of training centres;

List of principles suggested by the board of Dr Stevens' Hospital as essential in the foundation of the proposed College of Nursing;

Copy of resolution of the board of management of the Royal Berkshire Hospital dated 18 Jan 1916 concerning their inability to consider the proposals for establishing a College of Nursing at the current time;

Letter dated 5 Jan 1916 from Sir Arthur Stanley to the Secretary of the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital explaining his motives for advancing the scheme for state registration of nurses during wartime;

Letter dated 29 Jan 1916 from Mrs Bedford Fenwick to Lord Ampthill concerning efforts already made to secure legal status for trained nurses;

Letter dated 15 Jan 1916 from Sir Arthur Stanley to Sir Charles Russell concerning alterations made to the draft Memorandum and Article of Association for the proposed College of Nursing;

Letter dated 7 Feb 1916 from Gilbert G Panter of the Great Northern Central Hospital to Sir Arthur Stanley listing his observations on the proposed College of Nursing;

Letter from Miss Cox-Davies to Sarah Swift concerning those opposed to state registration and suggesting a general meeting to inform all nurses on plans for state registration and the proposed College of Nursing [undated];

Letter dated 15 Feb 1916 from Miss Cox-Davies to Sarah Swift voicing her opinions on the proposed College of Nursing;

Letter dated 4 Feb 1916 from Tom Percival of the Tynemouth Union to Sir Arthur Stanley concerning the National Poor Law Officers' Association and their opinions on the proposed College of Nursing;

Letter dated 11 Jan 1916 from Beatrice Kait to Sir Arthur Stanley concerning his circular letter not reaching nursing societies and the State Registration of nurses in America;

Agenda of general meeting of The National Council of Trained Nurses of Great Britain and Ireland held on 12 Feb, concerning Sir Arthur Stanley's circular letter and the proposed College of Nursing;

Letter dated 25 Jan 1916 from Sir Arthur Stanley to J Pennant concerning the structure of the proposed council and consultative body of the College of Nursing, and postgraduate courses.
