Hardback notebook containing part of a manuscript draft of 'The Drummer Boy' by Leon Garfield. The notebook starts at a section numbered '8', roughly equivalent to the beginning of chapter 8 in the published work, and progresses through to the end of section '10', roughly equivalent to the end of chapter 12 in the published work. The text is very different from that of the published version, and evidences significant revision and reworking throughout. Some pages have been folded in half vertically to indicate that they have been superseded by revised text.
The notebook has also been reversed and used from the back, with the reversed pages containing a fragment of chapter 8. This text is very similar to the text of section '8' in notebook 5 (LG/01/09/05) and may be a redrafting of that passage.
