Scope and Content

Spiral-bound notebook containing a manuscript draft of a prose retelling by Leon Garfield of the play 'Julius Caesar' by William Shakespeare [published in 'Shakespeare Stories II' (Gollancz, 1994)]. The draft is somewhat fragmented, with many passages being revised several times in succession, but it appears to be a complete draft. A single loose sheet of manuscript, relating to 'Julius Caesar', has been inserted into the back of the notebook.

In addition to the draft of 'Julius Caesar', the first eight pages of the notebook contain a manuscript draft of a short story entitled 'Act of God', which appears to be unpublished. A typescript version of this story appears in the series of typescripts under the title 'Laughter in the Dark'.
