Administrative / Biographical History

SAIMA was established in 1975. It was a trade union and was a member of the TUC. It became a group within the Engineers' and Managers' Association (EMA), newly established 1979. EMA was a federal body set up by the Electrical Power Engineers' Association (EPEA); John Lyons had been General Secretary of EPEA. The group became the Shipbuilding, Engineering and Aerospace Group in EMA in 1986.
