Ynyscedwyn Estate recordsD/D TDW

Deeds of Farteg-fawr and other properties in the parish of Cilybebyll, 1546-1774. The Ynyscedwyn Estate lands in the parish of Cilybebyll consisted of land at the north-eastern end of the parish, specifically Farteg-fawr (later Farteg-uchaf), purchased by Morgan Awbrey in 1641, and nearby Pen-rhiw-farteg.DD TDW/1/hub

Deeds of properties in the parish of Defynnog, Breconshire, 1583-1622. The Defynnog properties include Tir Rice ap John alias Tir Griffith ap Owen, Tir Llwyn y Ceiliog and other properties. Tir Llwyn y Ceiliog was purchased by Morgan Awbrey in 1622 and a charity was established under his will (proved in 1635) for the maintenance of the poor of Ystradgynlais from the proceeds of its rent.DD TDW/2/hub

Deeds of Betting-isaf in the parish of Llangiwg, 1593-1630. A farm situated about 2 miles west of Ystalyfera, purchased by Morgan Awbrey in 1630.DD TDW/3/hub

Deeds of Cilmaen-gwyn alias Tir-bach and Clyn-mawr in the parish of Llangiwg, 1632-1812. Properties situated on the hillside above the village of Cilmaengwyn. Three farms, Cilmaen-gwyn-uchaf, Cilmaen-gwyn and Cilmaen-gwyn-fach, belonged to the Ynyscedwyn Estate at the time of the estate map. Clyn-mawr has not been located, but is likely to be one of these.DD TDW/4/hub

Deeds of Coed-ffaldau alias Rhyd-y-gurnos alias Pant-y-bara in the parish of Llangiwg, 1635-1647. Coed-ffaldau is situated about a mile to the south of Cwmllynfell. It was purchased by Morgan Awbrey in 1647.DD TDW/5/hub

Deeds of farms at Cwmtawe in the parish of Llangiwg, 1619-1625. The three Cwm-tawe farms, Cwm-tawe-uchaf, Cwm-tawe-ganol and Cwm-tawe isaf, were along the valley floor beside the River Tawe, to the south and east of Godrergraig. The deeds include a number of other properties, including Cilmaen-gwyn-upon-the-Rock, which may be Cilmaen-gwyn-isaf, and Gilfach-yr-haidd (for which, see the deeds in the next section, D/D TDW 7/1-9). They were mortgaged by Mathew Herbert of Cilybebyll to Morgan Awbrey, then sold to him outright in 1625.DD TDW/6/hub

Deeds of Gilfach-yr-haidd in the parish of Llangiwg, 1553-1598. Gilfach-yr-haidd is situated around a mile west of Ystalyfera. By the 17th century it was included with the Cwm-tawe farms (see the previous section), with which it was first mortgaged and then sold outright to Morgan Awbrey in 1625.DD TDW/7/hub

Deeds of Tir Griffith ap Owen alias y Ty Du alias Tir-nant-y-gurnos in the parish of Llangiwg, 1520-1624. A farm near Cwmllynfell, possibly identifiable as Tynewydd, which adjoined the River Llynfell and belonged to the Ynyscedwyn Estate at the time of the tithe map. This property was purchased by Morgan Awbrey in 1624.DD TDW/8/hub

Deeds of Tir-gwaun-Siencyn in the parish of Llangiwg, 1648-1687. Tir-gwaun-Siencyn was situated approximately where the centre of Gwaun-Cae-Gurwen is today, and may be identified using the stated boundaries as a farm called Gors-goch on the tithe map. Purchased by Richard Portrey in 1687, no longer part of the estate by the time of the tithe map.DD TDW/9/hub

Deeds of Tir-Hopkin in the parish of Llangiwg, 1574-1621. A farm purchased by Morgan Awbrey in 1621; see also the earliest deeds of Gilfach-yr-haidd (D/D TDW 7/1-2), which comprise other properties including Tir-Hopkin, which is also called Llety Hopkin ap Jevan ap Owen. Tir-Hopkin adjoined Gilfach-yr-haidd, Ystalyfera, Maes-cwnrig and Tir-y-gelli (see D/D Yc 338), making it most likely that this farm became Clyngwyn, situated just to the north of Ystalyfera.DD TDW/10/hub

Deeds of Maes-cwnrig in the parish of Llangiwg, 1620-1728. Acquired as part of a marriage settlement by Morgan Awbrey in 1642, Maes-cwnrig later became known as Allt-y-grug, a farm situated today at the western edge of Ystalyfera. It included a cottage called Ty Gwyn.DD TDW/12/hub

Deeds of the Coelbren Estate in the parish of Ystradgynlais, 1552-1613. Purchased by Morgan Awbrey in 1602 and 1611, the Coelbren Estate consisted of a group of farms in the parish of Ystradgynlais but some distance to the east of the core of the estate, around what is now the village of Coelbren, including the church, a mill, what are described as three mansion houses, and a number of farms.DD TDW/15/hub

Deeds of Ynyscedwyn-isaf and Aber-twrch in the parish of Ystradgynlais, 1537-1626. Ynyscedwyn-isaf was situated near the River Tawe, to the south-east of Ynyscedwyn House. The Ynyscedwyn Works were later built on the site.DD TDW/16/hub
