William Loring, on board his brother Captain Ernest Loring's ship HMS 'Albion', to Mary Theodosia Loring, Blackheath: landing was made on Gallipoli peninsula on September 1st and a few days spent in rest camp, which was shelled at long range; men employed in digging trenches which they occupied the following night; forces to be split so as to alternate periods of action and inaction, mostly minor casualties so far, but a few fatal ones
