Newspaper cutting from "The Boy's Own Paper"

Scope and Content

Newspaper cutting from ‘The Boy’s Own Paper’ featuring Chapter ‘III’ from a story entitled ‘Dog Watch Years’ by ‘J. A. Higginson’, an adventure story set at sea. In poor condition, heavily torn around the edges. A large picture in the centre of the paper of a man holding a lamp wading through water, entitled ‘The Smuggler’s Signal’ and drawn by ‘A. W. Wall’. MS annotations by Milligan suggesting that he wanted to use this picture for his own book, with a caption at the bottom of the paper ‘Gunner Liddel Inspecting the Flooded Latrines’. ‘Gu’ written slightly above this, probably the start of the word ‘Gunner’ and the original intended position of this caption. ‘53’ in red ink in the top right hand corner. Overlaid with a leaf of tracing paper taped to the reverse, with MS annotations in red pencil and circled ‘44[?] [crossed out]’ ‘77 P150’; ‘REDUCE TO 69%’. Straight and diagonal lines drawn across the top and bottom of the paper. In red ink in the bottom right hand corner, ‘3 ½ w’.
