Illustration to 'William McGonagall: the truth at last'

Scope and Content

Two MS illustrations in black of McGonagall, on separate pieces of paper but mounted on the same piece of cardboard. The left drawing shows him carrying a large rock on his back, with a speech bubble ‘oooooo beautiful 100 Ton Rock etc’. The drawing on the right shows him sitting on battlements wearing a sheet and a crown, looking down at the funnel of a steam train from which a copious amount of steam is emerging and surrounding him. A speech bubble ‘oooh lovely 6.24 train etc’ and MS caption ‘On the Battlements of Kings Cross Station as the ghost of Hamlets [sic] Father’. MS annotations in blue on the cardboard ‘33’, circled, above the left picture; ‘45’, circled, above the right picture and a line down the middle to divide the images. On the reverse, an MS annotation in blue ‘2871/24’.
