MS 'Small dreams of a scorpion'

Scope and Content

MS draft of the poem collection ‘Small dreams of a scorpion’, with a TS contents page, some TS poems towards the end of the sequence and one photocopied MS leaf. All leaves loose apart from one stapled poem of two leaves. A note at the front on a separate leaf: ‘ORIGINAL MSS | IN ORDER AS PRINTED. | NOT IN POETS [sic] ORDER’. Some MS annotations to make corrections and alterations to the poems. Most poems given an MS date in the top right hand corner, ranging from 1943 to 1972. Many also labelled with the place of composition, which include Italy, Tunisia, ‘St Lukes Hospital | Psychiatric[?] Wing’, ‘Bethlehem Hospital | Highgate’, ‘On a train to Liverpool’, On train to Bournemouth’, ‘On a plane over Mexico’, Bournemouth, London, Bayswater, Woy Woy, Dublin and China. TS contents page on the headed paper of Margaret and Jack Hobbs Publishers, based in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey. Photocopied MS leaf at the end ‘Copy K. Spike | Thanks to his publishers | Dennis Dobson. Esq | Dobson Bks. | 79, Kensington Church St | London W8’.
