Letters to the Bray family

Scope and Content

Letters to Mrs A Bray, Miss Margaret Bray and Miss Amanda Bray, a family from Stratton in Cornwall, from various friends. Most of the writers of the letters come from the Devon and Cornwall area, including Barnstaple, Taunton, Tiverton, and St Austell; their letters describe social events and give news about the writers' families and acquaintances. There are interesting links to be made between letters; occasionally the writer of one letter will mention some news about someone whose letter is also in the collection. The letters were sent to two addresses: Langford Hill, near Stratton, Cornwall, and Upton Cottage, Bude, Crediton, Cornwall. Later letters are concerned with Miss Bray's work for the Girls' Friendly Society.

Administrative / Biographical History

It is likely that Mrs and the Miss Brays are mother and daughters, although it would take further research to establish this.
