Scope and Content

To her mother from Allahabad. Had a pleasant walk with Mrs Ashton, her first walk since she arrived in India. Mentions housekeeping problems; she annoyed the cook by arranging for preserving of some pineapples to be done on the verandah, instead of leaving it in his hands, when a great deal of sugar would have disappeared. Dusters wear out very fast and she intends to fine servants. If they makes holes in the new set which have just arrived, made in the gaol with different borders for the different servants. Enjoyed talk with Mr Tyrrel and Lady Stuart's; very sceptical and she often disagreed with him. Made an interesting visit to some local tombs with Dr. Spry
