Says the year has been one of sorrow and disappointed hopes; first the disappointment of not seeing him, and then the loss of the youngest child, cut off at a stroke. She sends him a lithograph of their home done by John (see previous entry) 'the dial in front of the house is perhaps the largest in the kingdom and of his own constructing'(follows a description of the whole house and out building)
