Scope and Content

To her mother from Allahabad. Describes visit to an Indian Lady and her daughters. Although she is not a Christian, she reads the Bible and can understand English and read it well, but does not speak it freely. 'There is something remarkable sweet and unaffected in the manners of the whole family'. She attends a military funeral and feels strongly the cruelty of the distance from England and the difficulty of communication; the man's family would not even know he was ill at the time of his funeral. The mongoose has had to be trapped and let loose at a distance as he knocked over too many things in the house.
