Administrative / Biographical History

The Platen Machine Minders' Society was established in 1890. In 1924 it joined the National Union of Printing, Bookbinding, Machine Ruling and Paper Workers but continued to exist as a separate branch. In 1992 the branch amalgamated with the London Region of the Graphical, Paper and Media Union.

Archivist's Note

The records form part of the wider printing unions' archives and within that have been listed as part of the Society of Graphical and Allied Trades, the Platen Machine Minders' Society being a predecessor of the larger union. An authority file exists for this corporate body (GB 152 AAR50).
