On Ruth being unwell, Ruth considering Switzerland for her holidays, "Grandpa's" health, gardening with Barbara, Ethel being laid up with a housemaid's knee, spring cleaning, wanting Ruth to visit, sandals from Switzerland, the children climbing trees and Gershom making them a rope ladder, Ursula and Robin's interest in birds, an order for a fan [to be painted by Dorrie], new clothes for the children, new neighbours who learned drawing off William Collingwood and was in Ruth's class.
