On the letters taking a long time to arrive, her previous letter, sending her Norman Nicholson's book on Cumbria and Westmorland, the TLS naming Wordsworth and Collingwood as the authoritative writers on the Lakes, books about Ruskin, their situation with Peggy, snow, having colds, electricity cuts, Christmas cards, sunshine, sunsets and 'mock sun'.
