Administrative / Biographical History

Arthur Ransome’s mother, Edith Ransome, was a daughter of Edward Baker Boulton, who spent much of his life sheep-farming in Australia but was also a talented artist. She was also a gifted watercolour painter. She encouraged her son’s writing, particularly with The Picts and the Martyrs where his second wife, Genia, had been particularly discouraging.
