Scope and Content

A spiral-bound notepad containing draft material for Millennium People.

The leaves have been numbered by the author on the recto, at the top right corner, as leaves 1-50, with the exception of leaf 9 which is lacking.

In addition to the notepad, there are 5 sheets onto which yellow 'post-it' notes have been transferred by the archivist (from the verso of leaf 38, leaf 39, the verso of leaf 43, leaf 44, and leaf 45). In some instances, Ballard has written across a group of two or three note sheets adhered together; they have been transferred as a group, maintaining the written note intact.

Physical Characteristics and/or Technical Requirements

The notebook was found tucked inside the autograph manuscript of Millennium People which had been secured with string as a single bundle by the author. A number of yellow 'post it' notes that were adhered to several of the notebook leaves (obscuring text beneath) have been re-secured to separate sheets of acid-free paper (within sleeves) on which their original location within the notebook has been recorded.

Following leaf 50, the notebook has not been used. Notebook dimensions: 200 x 125mm.

Leaf 1, which had become detached from the spiral binding, has been adhered (by the author) to leaf 2 at its top edge.
