Administrative / Biographical History

Harry Weston (1896-1989) was born in Coventry. Following his apprenticeship and the First World War, Weston founded Modern Machine Tools in 1928, a company that produced water pumps, lathes and other machinery. Weston made a long contribution to Coventry civic life, becoming a Conservative City Council member in 1936; holding the post of alderman, from 1955-1974; and being elected mayor in 1951. Weston was also awarded the MBE, in 1974.
