Account Book: Shop y Rhyd, Talwrn

Scope and Content

ACCOUNT BOOK: Shop y Rhyd, Talwrn. Contains loose lists of groceries required by customers and noted from customers asking for further supplies of groceries and giving reasons for their overdue accounts. One writer asks the shop keeper to give her son money to fetch a loaf from "Lleiniau" [another Talwrn shop] and include the cost of the loaf in the shop accounts. In another note the writer asks for jam explaining that she uses it instead of butter because butter is so dear. Another note contains a request for further credit and if the shopkeeper is not agreeable would he write it down for John [?her son] so that people don't hear. It appears that this book was originally used as an account book for a stone mason between 1896 and 1900.
