Scope and Content

LETTER: Lewis Heron, Ship and Insurance Brokers, London to Captain Robert Jones, Ship "Talus", Tacoma. They wrote to him last on the 18th inst. which they beg to confirm. They have been much concerned at the delay experienced in Frisco as there is not much time to catch his date in Puget, and freights are down very considerably. This is the best time of the year for making the passage and they know that if it is humanly possible he will be there well before the 15th Feb. They received a cable stating that they had been delayed by weather but had sailed on Wednesday morning. This gives 24½ days, and they trust that it will be ample. The last voyage proved disastrous but they hope to wipe out what loss she made and leave a balance of profit. They ask him to certify that Nicklin has completed four years apprenticeship on board the "Talus" and get him to sign receipt across a penny stamp.
