Scope and Content

LETTER: Evan Jones & Co., Shipbrokers, Cardiff to Captain Robert Jones, Amlwch. They refer to their letter written last Thursday proposing a round freight from Cardiff to Beagle Channel for the "Lord Tredegar". There is a vessel now under offer for the business and likely to be accepted on Monday. The "Lord Tredegar" would however be more suitable in size to meet the requirements of the charterers. They believe that the charterers would accept an offer of £11,000 on the round. It would however be necessary for the ship to have bowports for the homeward cargo. They have been offered today a freight home from the ports named in Brazil to U.K. or Continent without the option of the States, on terms of charter which they enclose. Charterers do not make it a positive offer, but they should be glad to try an offer of the "Lord Tredegar" at 2s.6d. more than the rates mentioned. They ask him to wire them on Monday. With regard to outward freights they are still of the opinion that it would be well to defer chartering until the arrival of the ship when they have strong hopes of being able to secure a trifle above the rates already quoted for Pernambuco.
