CIRCULAR LETTER: William Thomas & Co., 30 Brunswick St., Liverpool referring to a circular letter dated the 19th inst. issued by Captain R.H. Roberts relating to the Barque "Alliance" which was handed to them by one of the co-owners. Although professing to be addressed to the owners no copy was sent to them. It was dated from their office, but was sent from Captain Roberts's lodgings. It contains misleading statements (1) Captain Roberts refers to his "partner and co-owner". If he means by this that he is or ever was, a member of their firm his statement is altogether un-true. He is not and never was a partner and they are not in any way responsible for anything he may do. If he means that their Mr William Thomas, by being a part owner in the "Alliance" with him is a partner, his statement is only true in the same sense that every other part owner is also a partner. (2) They do not owe a single penny to the "Alliance" on the contrary her owners are indebted to them in the sum of £1119.9s.9d. (3) The have repeatedly asked Captain Roberts as Manager of "Alliance" for payment of the balance but without success. (2 copies - 1 for Captain Jones, 1 for Thomas Rowlands, Penrhyn)
Letter refers to entry 260.
