Administrative / Biographical History

The Royal British Legion is a charity concerned with the welfare of those who have served in the armed forces. It provides financial, social and emotional support.

The predecessor of the Royal British Legion was known as the Comrades of the Great War. They were founded in 1919, two years before the British Legion. However, in Menai Bridge, Anglesey at the time, there was a branch, not of the Comrades, but of a sister organisation - the Soldiers' and Sailors' Association.
