James Barlow's bookplate is evident in the front cover of all three volumes and he has also signed his name on the first page. Additional inscriptions on the front covers indicate that they were acquired by the Manchester Medical Society in 1880 and subsequently allocated the reference GO 5495 viz. their 1890 library catalogue. In pencil on the inside of the back cover of volume is also written '3 vols-1/6' indicating that the set of notes were sold at some point and presumably purchased either by Barlow or by the Medical Society. Compared to other volumes of lecture notes which are neat copies these three volumes are quite rough versions.
