Scope and Content

An English translation of a letter from Abraham Cyprian to Thomas Millington published in Leiden in 1700 by Jordanum Luchtmans. The original title reads 'Abrahami Cypriani M.D. Anatomie & Chirurgiae in Academica Francquerana nuper Professoris. Epistola historiam exhibens foetus humani post XXI menses ex uteris tuba, matre salva ac superstite, excisi. Ad ampliss. virum D.D. Thomam Millington Equitem Auratum, Medicum Regium Ordinarium, & Collegii Medicorum Londinensium Praesidem'. The English translation of the title reads 'A letter showing the history of the human foetus extracted out of the tube of the uterus after twenty one months, the mother surviving and in good health. From Abraham Cyprian M.D. late Professor of Anatomy and Surgery in the Academy at Francquera to D.D. Thomas Millington Knight of the Garter, the King's ordinary Physician & president of the College of Physicians in London'.

In the first instance the letter recounts the meeting of Cyprian and Millington in c.1696 when Cyprian operated on Millington for a bladder stone and then goes on to recount a case Cyprian attended to in December 1694 of a 32-year-old woman in Francquera as described in the title.

The contents of the letter cover ff.1-48 with writing on both the recto and the verso and the rest of the volume is blank.
