Assorted Shorthand Lecture Notes

Scope and Content

All the notes are in shorthand using Byrom's system.

Lectures 1-9 of Fordyce's Clinical Lectures can be found on ff.1-37, which are numbered as such. The notes are set out in two columns on each page with lectures 1-6 on the recto of each page, and lectures 6-9 found upside down on the verso of each page running backwards from f.36 to f.13 where the page numbering continues with 48-62. The lectures commenced on 23 November 1784.

Lectures 10-18 of the same series of clinical lectures can be found on ff.38-90, and the folios have been numbered 63-116. Lectures 10-18 are on the recto and lecture 18 continues upside down on the verso of some of the pages running backwards from f.116 to f.111. Lecture 19 can then be found on the recto of ff.91-100, which are numbered 123-130.

ff.101-107 are blank and then a new series of shorthand notes of Lectures on Chronic Diseases begins. Lectures 1-8 can be found on the recto of ff.108-163, which are numbered 1-54. Lectures 9-11 can be found upside down on the verso of each folio running backwards from f.163 to f.138, which are numbered 55-78. Lectures 12-16 of the clinical lectures then follow on the recto of ff.164-194, which are numbered 79-109.

ff.195-211 are blank and a new series of shorthand notes begins, taken form what looks to be anatomy & surgery lectures, and covering ff.212-325. ff.326-333 are blank followed by 3 further folios of shorthand notes.
