Dr Bardsley's Lectures

Scope and Content

Small volume of notes from lectures given by Samuel Argent Bardsley (1764-1850). The manuscript is not paginated, the writing is on both the recto and the verso and the title is given at the head of the first page as 'Scraps from Dr Bardsley's Lectures on Materia Medica delivered in the session of 1833&4'. The lectures are numbered but incomplete and their contents are as follows:

  • Lecture 1 - nature of medicines, determining doses, and the temperature of medicines
  • Lecture 2 - solid forms of medicines, properties of a perfect formula, and abbreviations used
  • Lecture 3 - particular forms of remedies
  • Lecture 4 & 5 - The Linnaean Artificial System
  • Lecture 8 - parts of a vegetable and their uses
