Shorthand Lectures on the Natural History of the Body & the Materia Medica

Scope and Content

The contents are almost exclusively in shorthand using the Byrom system with occasional words in longhand which help to identify the content. The writing is predominantly on the recto only with occasional notes on the verso. Folios 1-288, which are numbered as such, contain notes of Fordyce's materia medica lectures which appear to match up to the longhand versions found in MMM/2/3/1/7 & MMM/2/3/1/8. Each of the lectures is individually numbered but not dated, and whilst the content seems to correspond with the longhand versions the numbering of the lectures does not match up perfectly.

ff.288v-289 contains additional shorthand notes entitled 'The elements of the human body, Plenck's Hygrology'.

ff.294-303 bearing the original pagination pp.1-19, contains a list of medicines organised by classification and all in longhand.

ff.304-318 are blank.
