DANIEL YOUNG

Scope and Content

The company was established in 1872 and based in Bridge Street, Witney. They were mainly mechanical and consulting engineers, taking on a job and then sending out requests for quotations to other firms. They acted as agents for companies such as Tangyes Ltd., engineers of Birmingham, and were also boiler makers, millwrights and brass founders and finishers. Daniel Young were eventually taken over by Buckingham Engineering (Witney) Ltd..

The records in this collection cover the years 1872 to 1969 and consist of ledgers, letter books, correspondence and contract files, order books, cash and bank books, invoices and receipts, and a few engineering drawings. There are also a few "non-company" records, such as papers of Witney Choral Society.

The documents were deposited in August 1976, as accession number 1294. A list of contents in this catalogue appears on the following page. Catalogued by Mark Priddey & Alison Scott, February 1993.
