Scope and Content

The collection consists of papers relating to the National Eisteddfod dating from 1962 - 1985. These include files with reports, pamphlets, handbooks, correspondence, staff contracts, accounts and details of publications and appointments. Also, Eisteddfod compositions, lists of Gorsedd members and copies of deeds relating to memorial prizes.

The papers of the Local Government Boundary Commission for Wales consist mainly of reports and reviews of boroughs and districts arranged into the former counties of Clwyd, Dyfed, Mid Glamorgan, South Glamorgan, West Glamorgan, Gwent, Gwynedd, Powys and Dyfed. Also included are Robert Thomas David Williams' working papers as a member of the Local Government Boundary Commission for Wales containing agendas, minutes, correspondence and reports. Also files containing material regarding the National Boundary between England and Wales and the Review of District Electoral Arrangements.

Administrative / Biographical History

Robert Thomas David Williams, born in 1920, attended the University College of North Wales between 1938 and 1941 and gained a degree in Welsh. He joined the Royal Air Force during the Second World War and then studied law at the London School of Economics.

He was the Deputy Clerk of Anglesey County Council before becoming Clerk of Montgomery County Council.

R.T.D. Williams was secretary of the National Eisteddfod Council from 1971 until his death in 1985, and a member of the Local Government Boundary Commission for Wales from 1978, also until his death.

Open to all users, apart from the National Eisteddfod papers which are restricted - the Archivist's permission must be obtained before consultation.
