The collection consists of Field notebooks kept in South Africa, a few unpublished drawings and fragments of manuscripts. There are various reprints and maps connected with expeditions to Africa and fieldwork in Great Britain.

Administrative / Biographical History
Francis Rex Parrington (1905-1981) studied at the University of Cambridge 1924-1927. In 1927 he became Assistant to the Director of the University Museum of Zoology, initially curating reptiles and amphibians, and in the next year became Strickland Curator of Birds. In 1930 he went on an expedition to collect fossils in the South African karroo with C. Forster-Cooper. In 1938 he became Lecturer of Zoology, as well as Director of the Museum of Zoology until his retirement in 1970.His publications and research were concerned with different kinds of fossil vertebrates.

Manuscripts can be consulted on appointment only. The Museum of Zoology is open Monday to Friday 9:00 am to 17:00 pm. Access and reproduction is at the discretion of the Archivist.
