Administrative / Biographical History
The British Teilhard Association was founded in 1965 to promote the study of the works, thought and teaching of the priest-scientist Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, S.J. (1881-1955), who believed in a dynamic universe moving towards ultimatecompletion in a cosmic centre of convergence known as the Omega Point. The Association organised conferences and lectures, workshops and seminars; assisted students with bursaries; and published books and casettesby and about Teilhard. Local groups of the Association were established in towns and cities to help its membership obtain a deeper understanding of Teilhard's philosophy but the organisation also had a global outlook, with affiliation to theFondation Teilhard de Chardin in Paris and as a founder member of the European Teilhard de Chardin Centre established in 1989, as well as having close ties with Teilhardians in America, Canada, Australia, India and elsewhere. The Associationdisbanded in December 2017, although it still maintains a web presence. www.teilhard.org.uk
