Scope and Content

File containing correspondence and papers relating to plans formulated in 1973 by Brian Cox and Rhodes Boyson to edit and publish a series of short books on education, each written by an expert in a specific field; the books were to cover such topics as streaming, progressive education, the teaching of reading and creative writing, as well as particular types of educational institution and educational theories; the scheme was not ultimately implemented. The file contains: an outline of the projected series; letters to prospective contributors; correspondence with publishers, and with various American contacts. Topics covered include: plans for Bantock to write on progressive education, Boyson on the future of secondary education, and Cox on higher education; recommendations of American contributors; and Cox's plans in 1977 to write his own major book on education.
