Scope and Content

Samuel Wood to Sir John Trevor, MP (Cannon Row): sends further news by the bearer Mr Chrichley, the receiver's deputy, that 'the Major I wrote of hath not only showed himself forward for getting hands to such a petition as I wrote of but hath by warrant required your tenant and carpenter Griffith Davies to come to do work at the repairing of the mills as for the public affairs upon pretence of being destitute of mills for the grinding for the garrison …'; writer has spoken to Colonel Aldersey who will be writing to recipient himself; is sure Mr Trevor will not be opposed at the election but thinks he should appear personally in the area; news of recipient's mother's health which is fragile 'she wants nothing nor the house guests and company'; reports that Sir Evan has been offered £400 by the Colonel for certain lands which the writer does not think worth that amount; 'the parsonage which was taken from the vicar of Chirk was in Montgomeryshire and is a sinecure and no man yet placed in it and he is not of long life it would be sufficient means for him if he might obtain it again … there is now made but £35 of it, it is called Llandysshay or Landisiaf, it is near Pool. I would his son had that or Corwen which is a vicarage with cure and the dean of St Asaph held it in commendam with his deanery; asks if he is intending to send Tom to help transplant the trees and says the gardener is ready to come and wants directions.
